Need More Engineers but Can't Afford Local Salaries?

Quick answer

Hire engineers from outside your local salary market, into your own team and under your direction. Through Tunga, professionals from across Africa join your team remotely at €26-37 an hour, invoiced monthly on the hours actually worked, with no setup, search or replacement fee. You can start with one person, part-time, and add people when the plan asks for them. The rate makes the growth affordable, and with it, finding, contracts, absence and replacement are off your plate. If saving cost is the main reason and there is no plan the extra engineers are for, Tunga is probably not the route for you.

A salary is not the whole cost

When a local salary doesn't fit the budget, the salary is usually only part of what doesn't fit. On top of it come:

  • Employer costs, such as social charges, pension and benefits.
  • The search, as a recruitment fee or as weeks of your own time.
  • The months a seat is open, while the roadmap waits (see I can't get my development team staffed).
  • Starting over when someone leaves, with the search and the first weeks again.

A salary also pays for holidays and sick days. Through Tunga you pay only for the hours actually worked: holidays and sick days are not invoiced. To compare for yourself, take the local salary, add employer costs, and divide by the hours someone actually works.

What the rate covers

Tunga charges €26-37 an hour. Everyone in Tunga's pool has been through its selection: at least 3 years of experience, interviews, technical tests and a review of their code (see how Tunga selects professionals). There is no setup, search or replacement fee, and you have one contract, with Tunga. In the first 4 weeks either side can end the engagement at one working day's notice, and after that with 4 weeks' notice, so the cost can follow the plan when it changes (see terms and pricing).

Start with what the plan needs now

You don't have to hire the whole team at once. Start with one person, part-time if the work is small, and add people when the plan asks for them (see only need one developer?). One cost doesn't go away: someone in your company has to say what to build and check whether it is good (see is our organisation ready for a remote developer?).

Is this fair to the professionals?

Yes. The professionals earn several times what comparable local jobs pay, paid monthly, on time, in EUR or USD (see is this good for the professionals?).

When Tunga is not the route

Tunga works for companies that need more engineers to do something: a roadmap, a launch, a client that is waiting. If saving cost is the main reason, without a plan the extra engineers are for, Tunga is probably not built for you.

Where Tunga fits

Tunga takes the staffing side off the plate of companies that need digital professionals: software engineers, AI operators, product managers and other digital roles, from across Africa. The client directs the work. Tunga handles finding and vetting, contracts, payments and compliance, onboarding, keeping people, and replacing them when someone leaves or it isn't working. The professionals are independent contractors or employed in their own country through an employer of record, and work remotely from their own country; the client has one contract, with Tunga, and a delivery manager who checks in with both sides. In 2025, about 1 in 56 placements ended because the professional left for another job. Founded in 2015; 3,500 professionals across 38 African countries and 300+ client companies, as of September 2026.

Tunga is not the right fit when the role has to be on site, when the work means talking to your clients in a language other than English or French, or when saving on cost is the main reason you're looking.
