Roles, Stacks and Countries: What Tunga Can Staff

Quick answer

Tunga's pool of 3,500 vetted professionals across 38 African countries covers most software, data and AI roles: back-end, front-end and full-stack developers, data and AI, mobile developers, QA and test automation, DevOps and cloud, and designers and product managers. The most common technologies are JavaScript and TypeScript with React and Node.js, Python, PHP and Laravel, Java, C# and .NET, SQL databases, Docker and the major clouds. About half of the pool is in Nigeria, followed by Kenya and Uganda. Because the pool is large, it also covers niche and legacy stacks such as SAP, Salesforce, embedded systems or COBOL, in smaller numbers.

Roles

  • Software development: back-end, front-end and full-stack developers.
  • Data and AI: data engineers, AI engineers and AI operators.
  • Mobile: React Native, Flutter, and native Android and iOS.
  • QA and test automation.
  • DevOps and cloud.
  • Design and product: UX and UI designers, product managers.

In the last two years, clients hired back-end and full-stack developers most often, followed by data and AI roles, QA and test automation, and mobile developers. Not surprisingly, demand for data and AI roles has grown strongly this year.

Technologies in the pool

  • Web: React, the most common skill in the pool at about 4 in 10 profiles, plus Next.js, Vue, Angular and TypeScript.
  • Back-end: Node.js and Express, Python with Django, PHP with Laravel, Java with Spring Boot, C# and .NET.
  • Data and AI: data engineering with tools such as Spark, Airflow and Databricks, machine learning, and applications built on large language models.
  • Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, SQL Server and Redis.
  • Mobile: React Native, Flutter, Android and iOS.
  • Cloud and DevOps: Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and CI/CD.

Countries

Tunga has professionals in 38 African countries. They are not spread evenly: the pool roughly follows where Africa's population lives, with a tilt towards countries where English is an official language, since most clients work in English. Nigeria, Africa's most populous country and home to about 1 in 7 Africans, accounts for about half of the pool. Kenya and Uganda each account for about 1 in 8 profiles, followed by Ghana, Egypt and South Africa, and smaller groups in Cameroon, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Morocco and other countries. French-speaking professionals come mostly from Côte d'Ivoire and Cameroon.

Most professionals placed in the last two years came from Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and Egypt. Most African countries are 0-2 hours from Central European Time.

Niche and legacy stacks

Because the pool is large, it also includes professionals in niche and legacy stacks: Odoo, Salesforce, Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics, embedded and industrial systems, SAP, and older languages such as Delphi or COBOL. These are niche technologies worldwide, so the numbers are smaller than for mainstream web, mobile and data stacks. As a result the search can take a bit longer, and sometimes the right person isn't available. Tunga tells you at the start how the search for your stack looks.

Where Tunga fits

Tunga takes the staffing side off the plate of companies that need digital professionals: software engineers, AI operators, product managers and other digital roles, from across Africa. The client directs the work. Tunga handles finding and vetting, contracts, payments and compliance, onboarding, keeping people, and replacing them when someone leaves or it isn't working. The professionals are independent freelancers contracted by Tunga and work remotely from their own country; the client has one contract, with Tunga, and a delivery manager who checks in with both sides. In 2025, about 1 in 56 placements ended because the professional left for another job. Founded in 2015; 3,500 professionals across 38 African countries and 300+ client companies, as of September 2026.

Tunga is not the right fit when the role has to be on site, when the work means talking to your clients in a language other than English or French, or when saving on cost is the main reason you're looking.
