A Match Made in Tech: The Collaborative Journey of Cinnamon Toast and Tunga

BY Temidayo Salako · 4 MIN READ

Our engagement with Cinnamon Toast, a leading Canada-based full-service marketing agency, began in 2021 and has since evolved into a testament to the power of a perfect match in the professional world. From the first meeting, our relationship with Cinnamon Toast has taught us one thing – two matched pieces of a puzzle can remain glued to each other for a long time. We officially began to work together on the 12th of October 2021, and unsurprisingly, our senior developer from Uganda, Kelly Joseph Wafukho, is still working with the Cinnamon Toast team today.

Cinnamon Toast offers a robust suite of services, including brand strategy, identity design, website development, copywriting, and campaigns. With teams established in Ottawa and Hamilton, they specialize in broad, strategic thinking rather than niche or narrow markets. Therefore, Cinnamon Toast’s need to add another developer to their team presented us with a unique challenge: to find a developer with the right technical expertise and a personality that matched the agency’s dynamic environment.

It was vital for Cinnamon Toast to find a developer who would fit into its work culture and understand its team dynamics. This meant that not only did we have to understand Cinnamon Toast’s culture, but we also had to be well-acquainted with the developer we were bringing on board. We undoubtedly made a great match because the same developer still works on their team almost three years later.

The Journey

The exciting thing about recruiting for Cinnamon Toast was that while we needed to ensure the developer’s technical capabilities, we also had to consider his ability to fit into their culture of creativity, playfulness, dependability, and strategy. Although our situational awareness and personality tests might have given us the foundation we required to determine these parameters and recommend Kelly, our talent managers’ keen eye and excellent EQ helped seal the relationship.
Kelly’s integration into the team has been so successful that Bronwyn Mondoux, Chief Creative Officer at Cinnamon Toast, considers him an indispensable team member.
“The talent team at Tunga understood my needs, and we were lucky enough to find the perfect fit in our developer, Kelly. He feels like one of our teammates and is wonderful. We see him as a long-term employee who we can’t imagine time without!” – Bronwyn Mondoux, Chief Creative Officer at Cinnamon Toast
Kelly’s experience hasn’t been any different. He told the delivery manager responsible for ensuring he has a great experience working with Cinnamon Toast, “It has been excellent so far, given how much I have been able to grow my skills while helping the team.”

The Transformation

Nearly three years later, Kelly remains a pivotal member of the Cinnamon Toast team. His expertise in Java, PHP, C, JavaScript, Python, Docker, Redis, and PHPUnit has enabled Cinnamon Toast to deliver exceptional client results.
Our partnership with Cinnamon Toast goes beyond a mere business transaction; it’s a chapter of mutual growth, understanding, and celebrating a match that continues to enrich both parties. This collaboration solved a pressing need and fostered a relationship that thrives on mutual respect, shared goals, and a deep understanding of what makes a team work well and exceptionally. As they continue to innovate and lead in their industry, we at Tunga stand proud of our role in bringing together the right people with the right skills in the right place. This stands as a testament to the power of the right fit, proving that the heart of successful collaboration lies in understanding and meeting the nuanced needs of each partner.
