Although PHP is slightly becoming less popular over the past years, it is still one of the most widely used programming languages. Moreover, on a continent where most developers are self-taught, PHP is disproportionately present in the skillset of the average African software programmer.
At least around 50% of Africa’s 690,000 professional software developers has some experience with PHP. As a result, Africa is an interesting market to turn to when hiring locally is difficult. To be able to join Tunga, the candidates need to pass a variety of tests. These cover both technical skills and soft skills, including situational awareness and communication.
Custom matching
We ask you to provide us with the profile you are looking for. After that, we start the matching process among the developers in our pool. It generally takes up to 4 days to provide you with a shortlist of 3 candidate profiles, including CV and test scores. Further, when we don’t have suitable or available candidates in our pool, we do an out-of-platform search. This usually takes about 14 days. In addition, based on your preferences we organize interviews. And when necessary we do additional tests.
Getting started
Once you have chosen the final candidate we will send you a formal offer. We have flexible arrangements ranging from part-time and temporary 4 hour contracts to full-time open ended contracts. After that, in the first month you are assigned a talent manager who follows the collaboration closely, organizing a joint kick off meeting, consulting both you and the developer. And generally ensuring that things take off smoothly.
Support
Once the collaboration has taken off, the talent manager checks in regularly with both you and the developer. Either by means of a short survey or by calling/mailing. Further, if an issue arises, the talent manager will troubleshoot. And make sure that the continuity of your assignment is guaranteed.

How long does it take to set up my team from scratch?
Of course this depends on the size of the team and the scarcity of the skills you require, but generally it takes between 3 and 5 weeks.
Where will my team be located?
This depends on whether having the team work from the same location is a hard requirement for you. If not, the team members are working from a location of their choice; usually a coworking space, the local Tunga office or a home office. If yes, we can set up office space in the city or country where we can find the most suitable candidates for you.
How much does it cost to set up my team?
Setting up your team is a complimentary service that we provide at no extra costs. So you only pay for the hours the developers are allocated to you (standard rate EUR 27,- per hour). And optionally for the rental of the office space (including power and internet).
